Amount of carries for Viking RB's

Postby Vikes_Fan2823 » Tue Jun 29, 2004 2:35 pm

From VikingUpdate.com:

As VU is hearing it, the current plan is to have Bennett run the ball 15-18 times a game, with Onterrio Smith spelling him for approximately one drive per half and getting eight to 10 carries a game. Moe Williams will remain the third-down and short-yardage back and will likely get five to eight carries a game. Waiting in the wings is rookie Mewelde Moore , who has already signed and is expected to be used in spot duty as both a rusher and receiver.

that sounds about right, but i think moe will come in a bit more for receptions and such.. unless theyve trained onterrio to be a dominant receiving back... which i doubt hes reached the level that moe is at right now

Thats a plan, dont forget. If Bennett comes off the injury flyin I think they will increase his carries, making him the back everyone is hoping for

This makes zero sense. Why would you sit out Bennett for a drive each half? This is insane! The Vikings need to put out their most talented cast. That means, Michael Bennett is the running back. Giving him 3rd downs off is more than enough rest. When he last played 16 games, remember what happened? PRO BOWL. You don't mess with that.

I actually like this idea. We all know(well, with the exception of B4P) that Bennett is more of a track star than a RB. I think this will be a great change of pace and should keep defenses on their toes.

I think the Vikings are going to trade Bennett or Smith by the beginning of the 2005 season. Why would they draft a RB in the 4th round when they need Defense?

Because there weren't any viable LB in the 4th round, which is the only thing they need help with on defense. Moore was a great find in the 4th.
