The best thing to do with Portis is wait for him to have one breakout game then trade him for a proven performer. At this point he is more useful as trade bait than as a RB. You probably got him late in the draft, or from the free agent pool, so any starter (for your team) that you get for him is a good deal. Heck, one good carry in a game with a promise that "Portis will see more carries next week" would be sufficient to spark a trade.
