I think that is only part of the argument you are receiving. You have to consider who WILL be cut in the future to compensate for Mannings contract.
In two years, if Manning doesnt restructure his contract like just about every veteran does, then true, it will hurt them. But until 2 years from now, its purely speculation with no clue what the scenario will look like.
Well for starters, today isn't two years for now, so how can you complain about something that may or may not happen?
Next, veterans that restructure are generally much deeper into their careers than Manning. 28 is still pretty young in QB years. How can you complain about someone not restructuring a contract the signed THIS year?
Brett Favre (35) and Drew Bledsoe (32) each could use some WR's, but neither of their monster contracts have been restructured to make room for it. I suppose you could call Brett Favre a greedy, arrogant, pompous player, but then no one would ever listen to any arguement you ever made after that...

A big difference is that Favre and Bledsoe are in the Big Years of their contracts, where Manning who is making as much as them is in the lowest years.
When Manning is scheduled to make 17.7 million in 2 years he will be taking up over 22% of the cap space. Thats huge, especially with the roster size you are allowed.
The biggest problem w/ the contract are his big money years. Everyone is saying that it wont be a big deal b/c this year and next arent that much, but how are the Colts supposed to sign anyone PAST that year. They cant sign Harrison or Edge to even decent contracts past 2005, b/c those combined w/ Mannings contract will be taking up 50% of the cap space. The same holds true for any player who demands a decent amount of money.
By alotting so much money to one player spreads your team really thin. And it does have implications on who you can sign this year and next
What if this were reversed and Edgerrin had received the big deal....I bet all of you would scalp Manning again for not being a team player and wanting a deal worthy of performance.
Like was said earlier, I think Manning is being chastized because his name in Manning and I think somewhat, because he is white. Thats part of why i mentioned the role reversal.

How does him being white have anything to do with it? That has no bearing on his situation.

I understand good players wanting a nice, big salary... but Manning's is just way too ridiculous. He's really hurting his team and he's hurting the entire NFL because he set a presdent for top QBs. People just keep getting offered more and more, so everyone else wants more and more, until in a couple years you'll see D. McAllister signed for $400 million and M. Vick signed for $450 million. Manning is way too greedy - but I guess it runs in the family (with how Eli completely laid to waste a very good system that had workd for years and, just as Peyton did, set a presedent for top players to get to pick whatever team they want)

Manning's deal was a natural progression. Like I said before, which you probably didn't even read, nearly every time a superstar quarterback gets a new deal it sets records, it's the nature of inflation. When Favre signed his $100+mil deal, no one had ever gotten a contract anywhere close to that. Manning's deal is no % higher than the previous high than most of the other big deals out there in their time.

I hope that was a joke.
of course it was a joke. I just find it odd to single out a player who signs a large contract. At least he does not demand the coach be fired and all other star players be cleared out so he can be the man.
If edge has the year that many here are projecting they will find a way to keep him, and when Mannings salary spikes he will restructure. He does not strike me as one who wants to be a rich loser.
What do you guys think would be fair market value for a top 3, if not the best QB in football?
I dint read through all the posts but how much per year did edge make? He probably didnt get it that bad he was a top five pick in the draft... I can say he deserves a good contract but would you really give him the money portis got... hes half the back protis is... Hes not a gamebreaker anymore and he definetly benefits from a good passing game just as much as manning benefits from a good running game.
