Determining VBD Baseline

Postby Amazinz » Thu Jul 08, 2004 5:02 pm

I am a long-time FB player but this is only my second season of FF. I fell in love with VBD as soon as I came across it because it's very similar to the positional scarcity system I have used in baseball for years.

The league I am preparing for now is my first truly competitive league. It is a 12-team keeper where 4 players are reserved each season.

The roster is 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX (RB/WR), 2 DB, 2 DL/LB, and 2 D plus 8 bench.

I have my projections in place and have determined a fantasy points value for all draftable players. Now I am trying to determine the baselines for each position so I can set up my overall cheat sheat.

Considering the number of teams and the rosters do these baselines look good:

QB #12
RB #36
WR #36
TE #12
PK #12
DL/LB #48
DB #24

I would probably ratchet the WR baseline back to 24.....unless you are using 1pt/rec, your flex is more likely to be a RB. Otherwise, looks good.

I always go starters and 1 backup. For a 12 team league that's 24 QBs, 36 RBs, 36 WRs, 24 TEs etc etc. Some people make their baseline the number of projected draftees at a position. They might take RBs out to 45 and leave TEs at 20 since not everyone drafts a backup TE.

Doesn't this method over-value bench players? I'd appreciate it if you could give me an explanation of the benefit of taking bench players into account. Thanks. ;-D

You get a better idea of depth at the position. Seeing the difference between a 13-24 WR and a 25-36 WR may make you adjust your draft board.
