Well, everyone has their debates. You have Moss, then the rest of the WR core. Holt and Harrison are jockying for the #2 spot while Ward, CJ, and Owens look to see who can outplay the others. But, there is one player very often overlooked. His name is: Rod Smith. Now, wait, don't quickly reply saying I'm an idiot! Hear me out.
I will admit, the players listed above (Moss, Harrison, Owens, CJ, and Ward) all have better quarterbacks, but Rod Smith has something going for him. No offense. Rod Smith is, in my opinion, in a very similar position as LT. He lost his main reception take-awayer (dictionary) in Sharpe and the loss of Portis can only hurt their explosive running game. But, what about Shanahan's system? It will work, oh, trust me it will work, but not to the exetreme of producing a Portis or Terrell Davis.
In the 2000-2001 season, Rod Smith was a fantasy stud. He posted over 100 catches, nearly 1500 yards, and double-digit scores. But again, Jake Plummer is no John Elway. Don't let that stop you from taking him. If Lelie doesn't come around, Rod Smith will be the only receiver getting any looks. And while that may result in many interceptions, those don't count against Rod Smith.
Rod Smith is even more valuable in leagues where you have return touchdowns. Did You Know: Last season, Rod Smith returned a punt...for a touchdown! His versatility doesn't end there though! He also completed a pass over 70 yards.
I'm probabaly going out on a limb here. And, I will probabaly get a lot of critism for this, but come draft day, Rod Smith will be the steal of the draft. Keep in mind, in mock drafts he goes in the 8th or 9th round, so don't jump on him too early!
