D Jax vs Moulds

Postby Franchise Fan » Mon Jul 19, 2004 6:26 pm

i have seen alot of peoples top 10s for WRs and these two pop in and out, some people have them as high as 5 and some people have them off their lists, im curious who you think is the better of the two. And can someone give me an argument for moulds that isnt using his even year so he must be good excuse?
hopefully KG has something to say about this one...

ps. i have both of them on my team and curious who to use as bait.

Moulds has to rebound, he is too good of a reciever, and he's the go-to guy in Buffalo. Bledsoe will rebound as well, he's too good of a passer.

I think DJax will recieve a little extra attention this year than in the past, which may make KRob just as good a choice. But with that offence, there's plenty of balls to go around.

So, having said all that, I guess is my choice is: either one of them!

Moulds is and always has been a much better reciever and every year he has an off-season, he rebounds big. Moulds over DJax definately. ;-)

I think Jackson has a better chance to repeat or better his performance than Moulds does to outplay him. Moulds will do better than last year, but Jackson is an integral part of what might turn out to be the best offense in the league this year.

Just like what Azrael mentioned, Darrell Jackson is in a position to put up some huge numbers. Seattle's offense could be the best in the league and he should be one of the main beneficiaries.

While I think that Eric Moulds will do better than last year (it's hard to do anything with a screwed up hammy), I don't think that he will out-produce Jackson. The Bills should be a running team next year. The only thing I can see in defense of ranking Moulds higher would be the "Eric Moulds = Stud in Even Years" theory. I'm not buying that, though.

Neither of 'em are in my top ten, though.

Well I don't normally take requests. :-]

This is the Darrell Jackson I see.

Early bloomer.

53 catches 713 yards his rookie year, which is far above the rookie average I'm sure. Seattle didn't have much in the way of receivers in 2000, but DJ was a big part of the little they had.

Pretty consistent. By consistent I mean overall stats.

2000: 33rd fantasy WR
2001: 16th fantasy WR
2002: 34th fantasy WR
2003: 9th fantasy WR

Had it not been for that bad injury he got in 2002, he probably would've finished in the top 20 again.

So I see a top consistent top 15 WR who's gotten better every season.

Then there's some things I see that I don't like.

He's on the absolute low end of catches for a top 10 WR with 68. 8 of the 10 WRs finished with at least 90 catches. In fact, 18 of the top 20 WRs had more catches than Jackson. Usually, WRs with his low catch total fall in the 20-30 range for WRs.

My fantasy intuition tells me he is a good WR waiting for a great WR to take over the role as the true #1. The question is... is that WR Koren Robinson? If so, is 2004 the year? Seattle drafted K-Rob to be the true #1, but so far he hasn't delivered consistently.

Maybe... just maybe... It's Taco Wallace time.

I feel Moulds will rebound, but I think D-Jax can put up just as good numbers as Moulds will. Both can usually be drafted around the same time, so I go with D-Jax. I expect Bledsoe to rebound and Henry to return to his elite status helping Moulds production, but Bledsoe is getting close to QB mentor role, and well essentially Buffalo would have to play better than last year for Moulds to be worth his spot. Whereas on Seattle, they need only continue to play as good as last year. Any improvement to that offense should push D-Jax slightly over Moulds, and for Moulds to be better than D-Jax he'd have to regress, which KG's chart shows clearly he has yet to do.

You're going to have to explain your infatuation with Taco Wallace one of these days...
