Kiffin update

Postby Homeless » Sun Feb 02, 2003 5:57 pm

I know we had a thread on this somewhere, but heres the end result...

"The Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers retained the leader of their top-ranked defense Thursday by signing defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin to a three-year $5.1 million contract. The San Francisco 49ers had asked for permission to interview Kiffin regarding their head coaching vacancy the day after the Super Bowl, but a deal to stay in Tampa came together quickly. The $5.1 million contract is worth more than the deals signed recently by new head coaches Jack Del Rio and Marvin Lewis in Jacksonville and Cincinnati respectively"

Sound decision if you ask me.[/quote]

;-D I think Tampa Bay has got it right, since you have a salary cap preventing you from spending unlimited on players, just spend more on the best coaches out there. I think this team may be on the verge of something special here, at the very least another SuperBowl or two.

I agree with this too even though it is WAY to early to be comparing the team to others. their defense has made it's mark as one of the best ever. if they keep everything in tact then they could be the next dynasty but i'll just wait and see.

While I agree there Defense is the best in the league now....to compare them to the best ever is jumping the gun....when they have 4 rings on there fingers....then we'll talk.....everyone was saying that about Baltimore two years ago, which I personally think was better then Tampa's just for the fact that there offense suked....but time will tell to see if you can put them on the pedistal with the great D's of all time

The key is keeping the unit together and pumped (and healthy). All the great planning in the world is worthless without good execution. Baltimore w/Marvin Lewis was supposed to continue dominating a few years ago. Injuries and the salary cap issues put a halt to their dreams. Dynasties are hard to maintain with all the money flying around.

dynasty? ...ill believe it when i see it. with all the parity in the nfl i wouldnt be too quick to say any team will win more than one ring at a time...
