Plaxico caught 78 catches for 1,325 yards and seven touchdowns in 2002. He was likely a top 10 WR taken in nearly every fantasy football draft in 2003. He then proceeded to catch only 60 passes for 860 yards and four touchdowns last season. Is he now already so far forgotten that he is a sleeper pick?

It begs the wider question that does one or a few 'down' years relegate one to sleeper status? Is Emmitt Smith or Jerry Rice a sleeper pick?

The big difference between rice/emmit and plexico is that are friend mr. burress has only had one good year and with pitt's offense in the gutter it seems ward's getting all the balls. Barring a sudden development of running game or o-line burress's bad habits make him unlikely to repeat 2003.

Emmitt and Rice are washed up plain and simple. And yes one down year will relegate you to sleeper status. You have the #1 overall pick, would you take Cheech Williams? No.. then draft Eric Moulds in the 2nd round.

2 1000 yard seasons in your first 4 shows pretty good production. Some might argue that Plaxico only had one bad year (rookie season obviously doesn't count) and that he should return to fantasy prominence this year.

Pitt has NO offense, staley is not a fulltime back, they have no oline, and maddox is injury prone/not that great. All issues outside of Burress's control. I dont agree with one word you said above. Pitt's o-line suffered tremendous injuries last season. They weren't a bad o-line to start with, but this year they have been improved it and they are also healthy. duece staley is a pretty good back with a lot of power who can run between the tackles. this improved o line, coupled with there ability to run the ball should open the passing game for maddox. he has always been most affective with the play-action pass. this year with duece staley and a healthy jerome bettis Pitt will be able to run the ball pretty well. maddox will fall into his own.

you also have to acknowledge all of the intangibles that burress posseses. the guy is a tremendous athlete, he is fast and can run a good route. on top of that, the guy is 6'5''. he is one of the biggest red zone threats in the nfl.
