Why T. Barber > M. Faulk, S Davis, T Henry Etc...

I know what you are saying "YOUR NUTS!"

I thought so as well. But hear me out...

The question is how much does having to draft the back up for the three players in question impact their relative value?

In looking at AntSport average mock draft position since 7/1 (HP Flex no TE 10 teams) we find the following for the average draft position of the starters:

Faulk 2.04
Henry - 3.02
S. Davis - 3.02
T. Barber - 3.07

Here are the average draft positions of the backups:

Foster - 8.10
S. Jackson - 9.01
Willis McGahee- 11.03

R DAyne - 15.06

Here are the players that were available at each back ups average draft spot:

8.09 - W Dunn
8.10 - Ashley Lilie
9.09 - Reggie Wayne
10.08 - Marcus Robinson

So the question comes back to this would you rather have

Tiki Barber and Warrick Dunn or Marshal Faulk?
Tiki Barber and Ashley Lilie or S. Davis?
Tiki Barber and Marcus Washington or Travis Henry?

Now personally, I like T. Henry to have a big year. But do I want to have to reach to make sure I get McGahee just to make sure I am covered or would I rather target a #2 RB that doesn't have a back up that people will target as a #3 or #4 RB?

I don't think there are many people besides the owners of Tiki that are drafting Dayne. I know I am planning on trying to pick up Jackson and Foster if they are available in the 8th. Maybe earlier!

Unless I'm in a deeper league, I usually only handcuff my #1 back...instead of handcuffing #2's I draft someone in a committee or something to step in off the bench.

If I get Tiki, I won't draft Danye.
If I get Henry, I probably won't draft McGahee.
If I get Davis, I will draft Foster.
If I get Faulk, I will draft Gordon.

Interesting post. I usually consider handcuffing to be completely worthless since the majority of the players have never set foot in an NFL game and the handcuff you choose is probably wrong.

Do you handcuff Toefield or Jones to Taylor?
Do you handcuff Taylor or Smith to Lewis?
Do you handcuff Faulk or Cobbs to Dillon?

Who actually handcuffed Domanick Davis to Stacey Mack or Brian Westbrook to Duce Staley last season? How many people wasted a draft pick on Larry Johnson or McGahee last season?

OTOH, I have thought of "handcuffing" RBBC types to each other. Dunn & Duckett, Westbrook & Buckhalter, since more often than not, both players are semi-proven and if one goes down or wins the job outright, you probably get a solid starter.

THe only players worth handcuffing are players who are known injury risks and have a offensive system in which the back up can step in and succeed like in Saint Louis.

Well for starters, the only handcuff of that group I would consider taking is Jackson.

Secondly, those numbers seem awfully low for some of those guys. I have yet to participate in a mock draft where Warrick Dunn was still on the board at 8.09 or Reggie Wayne on the board at 9.09

Tiki "I can't hold onto the ball" Barber? Just giving you a hard time :-B

Interesting idea, and I agree with it in its theroy, but you're not forced to grab your RB's handcuff.

I wouldnt assume that. Im pretty sure he meant Gordon considering that Gordon is still the #2.

My bad. I hadn't really read the latest news on that and just assumed Jackson was the backup to Faulk becuase he was being drafted so high. I didn't even know if Lamar Gordon was still on the team. :-b I just read that article about Jackson not showing up to practice a couple minutes ago. ;-D
