Duce Staley

Postby goleafsgo96 » Fri Jul 23, 2004 11:55 am

How does everyone feel having him as a starter? He is my #2 back, i know its weak but i couldnt pass up on some of the studs that were there. Its a 12 team league that slightly favours Qbs, so i grabbed tomlinson, then ward, then mcnabb, then staley in the 4th. Should he be ok as a weekly starter, or do ineed to fine someone else? My bye week fill ins are Foster and Thomas Jones.

Well basically my question is what do u guys expect from him, and does he make a capable weekly starter?

Personally, I feel he's going to be an adequate RB#2 for you considering that you have Thomas Jones and DeShaun Foster as well. The way I see it, one of the three will likely emerge at a decent enough level where you'll feel good about your second RB production. Past the top 10 RB's, it gets dicey with all the RBBC's and "ladies in waiting" situations around the league with Willis McGahee, Onterrio Smith and Tatum Bell. It's hard to see what RB's are actually going to get to play a full year's worth of football as a starting RB. I think your strategy is sound ;-D

Most opinions I've seen for Duce think he'll have a bad year... I, on the other hand, think he'll have a nice year. I have him at #3 (on the roster) in one of my leagues... but, I have him to backup for Jamal if he misses any time during the season.

IMO, Duce is an adequate #2 back on most teams.

I think being that you have LT, you can afford to have Duce as your #2 RB.

I think Duce will do well in Pittsburgh...decent production for a #2 back in a 12 team league.

Should Be Sound RB2

Postby turtle » Fri Jul 23, 2004 2:41 pm

The Bus is running out of Gas (1 decade of great runs)
2003 3.3 yards/att (3 years of decline)
2002 3.6 yards/att
10 season avg 4.0 yards/att
He will continue to get goalline duties.
(fans love it when the bus scores)

Duce is still averaging more than 4 yards/att.
The three years (2002,1999,1998) duce was given 200 attempts in phi he delivered (1000 yrds rushing, 400 yrds receiving, 5 TD).
This is 10-11 fantasy points/game Solid #2RB!!!
He's also good at pass protection.

Keeper League:
He is probably a lock for the next two years (no super star rookie) They will probably draft one after this season. Good WR's will keep opposing def honest.

I would love to see a study of RB production vs attempts & age.
I'm sure both are a factor, is age or attempts a heavier weight?
Staley = 1200 attempts 1975
Bettis = 3200 attempts 1972
Faulk = 2600 attempts 1973
Hearst = 1800 attempts 1971
George = 2700 attempts 1973
Staley's not close in attempts

I have Duce around the #21 RB, so if you have LT, you have average starting RB's. They're not going to win the championship for you, but they are very respectable starters.

I agree with most of what has already been said. Duce is a good #2 back on a 12 team league. I wouldn't expect great numbers from him. But i do expect better than many of the porjections are showing.

Besides, I would lean toward one of Jones or Foster becomeing a decent back by week 6. Personally i think Foster could take the job if Davis goes down again.

i guess im higher on duce than anyone else. I feel that the speculation that Pitt will certainly go back to the running game to be true. I think ~20 - 22 is about the minimum he will go with a chance of perhaps going 16 - 17 overall a definete possibility. In my scoring system (10 yds/rush rec = 1, TD = 6) the 15th 16th and 17th overall were DD (1380/8) Faulk (1100/11) and Martin (1570/2). If he can rush for 1000 and receive for another 300, giving 1300 total yds and get his yearly 5 rushing TD's, then with perhaps 2 or 3 receiving, thats enough contend for 15th spot. Then again you never know.

I also like the Duce this year. I think he is way undervalued and a perfect fit for the Steelers. If the O-line stays healthy this year, Duce will be a great #2.

I think, therefore I am. I think fantasy, therefore I am unreal?
