Best man for the job? ..........

Postby Homeless » Wed Feb 05, 2003 9:50 am

Though expected, the hiring of Marriucci is not sitting well with everyone. Attorneys Johnnie Cochran and Cyrus Mehri, leaders of a campaign for more minority hiring in the NFL, said in a statement yesterday, "The Lions have seriously threatened to undermine and potentially violate the new NFL minority hiring policy approved by team owners in December. Prior to conducting a single interview, general manager Matt Millen essentially crowned Steve Mariucci as the Lions' new head coach. He might well have put up a sign at Lions' headquarters reading, 'Head Coaching Vacancy: Minorities Need Not Apply.' "

Who should the Lions have hired then ?

Is this political correctness gone crazy ?

no, they have to say that.

since day 1 their proposal has included the mandate that all NFL HC vacancies must be honored with interviewing at MINIMUM 1 minority.

they're just keeping honest on their agenda.

I agree with Awww. If Cochran and what's his nuts don't start raising a stink over it, then it will be going against their agenda, which as Aww pointed out is the minimum of interviewing at least one minority head coaching canidate.

It's a pretty touchy subject in this case because Millen wanted Mooch a year or two ago, and everybody knew it. Well obviously when Mooch gets fired and Millen let's Mornignwheg go, you put 2 and 2 together and come up with the Lion's wanting Mooch. It's obvious. So who wants to be the minority coach going in there for a "token" interview. NOBODY!!

good point rook who wants to get interviewed for a job they will never get. its obvious that mooch has the job no matter what. the poor guy who gets interviewed will have a hard time getting considered for other jobs simply because he will be looked at as the affirmative action scapegoat, for lack of a better way to put it.
