On the strength of a fantastic second-half of the season, the Seahawks have chosen to exercise a two-year, $10.5 million option on quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer the club could have exercised options for one, two, or three years. Despite starting just 10 games last year, Hasselbeck set franchise single-game records for passing yards, completions and attempts. He also set season records for 300-yard and 400-yard passing games.

Hasselbeck went berserk over the final six games of last season, averaging 344 yards and two touchdowns. Obviously, he won’t keep that pace for 16 games in 2003, but surrounded by solid talent, he’s got loads of upside. If your draft strategy is to wait until the middle rounds before taking a quarterback, he’s your guy.

Nice hey !? :-)

OH and Ray Rhodes signed today as well.

A man that can match the scheme with the players talent.

GO HAWKS.

I think this could this be the year the Hawks finally live up to their potential and make a run deep into the playoffs. The real question is who will lead them, Hasselbeck or Dilfer?

after signing a 10.5 mill contract, Im betting that it will be Hasselbeck...Dilfer is only a backup and only got his contrat extention last year because of the poor play of Matt....Matt will be the leader this year....does this mean they will go far in a div with the Niners and Rams????...I don't think so , but they sould alteast be a 500 or better team.

Yep...it's still a very tough division. I don't expect STL to have nearly as many problems as they did (injurues, o-line) and the 9ers have only been competative for 2 decades straight now.

I know its real early, but 10-6 ain't an impossibility. the schedule is easier this year than last.wether they win their division or make the playoffs depends on what happens to STL and SF. Seattle isn't anywhere near strong enough to do it on their own.

I live in Seattle and I have to say, I don't know if this is the magic key. The Hawks should be better on paper but somehow I still have my doubts. I can tell you one thing, if they don't improve next year and I mean get to the playoffs, there WILL be big changes next year.

All we need is a few holes for Shaun Alexander and we'll have the best offense in football.
Go Giants!
Go Seahawks!
