On the strength of a fantastic second-half of the season, the Seahawks have chosen to exercise a two-year, $10.5 million option on quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer the club could have exercised options for one, two, or three years. Despite starting just 10 games last year, Hasselbeck set franchise single-game records for passing yards, completions and attempts. He also set season records for 300-yard and 400-yard passing games.
Hasselbeck went berserk over the final six games of last season, averaging 344 yards and two touchdowns. Obviously, he won’t keep that pace for 16 games in 2003, but surrounded by solid talent, he’s got loads of upside. If your draft strategy is to wait until the middle rounds before taking a quarterback, he’s your guy.
Nice hey !?
