Late Round Picks

Postby BigMusky » Mon Jul 26, 2004 1:23 pm

How many people are guilty of this. You draft a guy in the late rounds because you think he has a chance to blow up. Then some guy has a big week one and you drop him to pick that guy up? I have had that come back to bite me really bad before in my baseball league with guys like Sheets and Cabrera this year.

Done it, but learned early to stop it. It's about the same as chasing points on you team. Seems everytime I switch a RB because a different onehad a good week, I get screwed. I try to stick with my premier players and leave the others as what they are, backups.

I've done it so much I'm scared to death of making that mistake again. Three years ago I had Priest Holmes and dropped him in week 4 b/c he hadn't done anything. Ooops. But I've also benifited from other guys doing the same thing.

Live and learn.

I could field a fantasy team with the players I've dropped.

I love the free agent rush.

I'm sure I will do it again this year.....

That's why a good rule of thumb is not to trade or move your players for the first three weeks. You drafted him for a reason and as long as beer wasn't too much of a contributor, trust your judgement. So barring any glaring oversights stick with what you picked.

My Commish has a draft board up on his wall from last year's draft. I wanted to cry when I checked it out last week and remembered my 2003 draft that included David Boston and Santana Moss late. I needed a bye-week-fillin defense and dropped Moss for one -- keeping Boston as my No. 2 WR. :~(

Last year, I drafted Steve Smith in the last round. Before the first game, I picked up some punk off the waiver wire, I think it was Lelie or like Ladell Betts. Needless, to say, I was ticked. Great pick though!

I almost fell into that trap last year. The first few weeks are volatile to say the least and in particular with WRs I've found. As Moochman said, just wait it out. If they underachieve past the first 3-4 weeks, then kick them.

I've probably done it every year. Last year was al ittle different... lucky enough to get Boldin off waivers after his first monster game... 2 more games not much from him... dropped him. Trung Candidate rings a bell as the pick up... nice move dufus.

For what it's worth, I grabbed Troy Brown after his OT catch that beat MIA, planned on using him after his "break-out" performance. One performance does not a break-out make.

12 team, H2H, hyper-performance, keeper (5)

Start 9: QB, 1/2RB, 2/3/4WR, 1/2TE, K, D/ST

Keepers: Deuce, Rudi, CJ, Shockey,
