What's the dang deal with the men's NCAA basketball tourney?
March Madness?

Is it just me?
But seems like not so long ago it was the A-1 BEST time of the entire sports year.
For me and most of the sports fans I know.
World Series and Super Bowl included!

Now - it seems to be one big who-gives-a-damn.
It's Damn 101.
In MY office, you can't even get a "board" or "pull-a-team-out-of-the-hat" thing going at all anymore!
No one cares.

Do you find this to be true, as well?
How did this happen?
Have the "Big" schools, the same old teams every year, totally taken over?
The best part used to be the "small schools" making a run.
Whatever DID happen to De Paul, UNLV, UAB, Memphis, Villanova, Marquette, Richmond ... etc?

I'm not a big follower of college hoops but I do watch it occasionally thru the season & in the tourney.It is awesome when a smaller,lesser ranked school knocks off a big name school & makes a "title-run".We should do a bracket-style pick'em this year for the cafe regulars.I can't speak for tha admins on if they wanna run it,but I'm sure one of the regulars could get it done.We certainly have a great group of guys here!I would do it but I am still a little burnt-out on stats & such as I did them for my one league the entire year.Plus I am starting Fantasy Racing & the 2nd half of my FHoops season,my light load of fantasy for the FF offseason.

Anyone care to take on this game?

I'd definitely like to participate, but alas I can't get the show up and running. A little thing called computer illeteracy is stopping me. :-P

I like the idea as well!!! I can help as much as I can, but I am limited with what I can do....

what about using a site like CBS/Sportsline to track picks??? I know it was free last year...I haven't heard yet this year tho...Or is there a way we could create something here at the cafe if the jedi (web) masters are interested....just some thoughts to get it rollin....

around here march madness is still pretty big! and talking about sleeper teams in the tourney, what about gonzaga a couple years back and Southern Illinois last year? :-)

I agree!
The "Zag"Nuts were a breath of fresh air!
But ... other than that ... it does seem like the same old same old.
And ... I also agree w/ the above. The BEST part IS those small schools that can field 5 good players and make a legit run at the "Big Boys".
THAT'S what made March Madness great!
I miss it.
Guess like everything else .... it's all $ $ $ now.
And even though basketball fields only 5, the small schools are in a bind.
When high school players get Hummers ... and TV exposure nets you an extra $5Mil ... who wants to play for a small school?
THAT'S the problem!

I have to say.
In over 40 years of serious sports watching.
The 1985 Villanova Wildcats NCAA win over Georgetown is
the single most impossible greatest underdog sports event win I have EVER seen.
My All-Time #1!
That includes the Jets in SB III.
And the Miracle Mets.
And the USA/USSR hockey team.
THAT'S what March Madness used to mean.

Really had not noticed that March Madness had lost its luster. Have lived in Kentucky since '93, and College Basketball is a way of life (or death for Cat fans), so brackets and pools are easy to come by. Of course, every bracket has either the Cats or Cards winning it all no matter what. You can imagine how it is around here with Lousville ranked #2 and Kentucky #3!!!!!!!! Have supported the Wildcats since I have been here, but year after year, Maryland is still the team I pull for to win it all. I would also be interested in participating in a bracket here if it could be pulled off.

Count me in Definitely! It'll be fun rubbing it in to you all when Duke cuts down the net once again :-)

I don't see a decline in interest from where I'm at. Usually people around here can't wait for College Basketball, because it comes right after the Bengals season. We all need a break after some of these forgetable Bengals seasons.

Also to Longestyard and Terp: You guys still in for the paperbag challenge when Duke and Maryland square off for the big rematch?
