Jared update:
Hefty QB seeks taste of Europe
Jared Lorenzen, the "Hefty Lefty" QB from Kentucky who mysteriously didn't show up for the start of training camp, may have a career with the Giants after all. He's at home in Kentucky, working out and hoping to convince the Giants to send him to NFL Europe in the spring - something Ernie Accorsi said the team is willing to do.
"He's not somebody we want to discard," Accorsi said. "He has talent. If he wanted to go to Europe, that would be the ideal place for him."
Though Lorenzen has never explained his absence to the Giants, they believe his weight contributed heavily to his decision not to report. Listed at 275, he was actually closer to 300 when he arrived for his first Giants minicamp. He was even heavier when he arrived for the second.
Coughlin ordered the 6-3 23-year-old to get down to 288 by the time training camp opened on July 29. According to one source, as camp drew closer he was tipping the scales at about 310.
Still, the Giants would welcome a slimmed-down version, especially with the possibility that Kurt Warner and Jesse Palmer won't be back next year.
