Bungles take action !

Postby Homeless » Tue Feb 11, 2003 1:57 pm

For one of the first times since Boomer Esiason left, there will not be a quarterback controversy in Cincinnati. At least not right away. New head coach Marvin Lewis has deemed Jon Kitna to be his starter, even if the team uses the first overall selection in the draft to take a quarterback.
We love that Lewis is taking a long-term approach toward developing his next quarterback, almost certainly either Byron Leftwich or Carson Palmer. The decision also offers a reassuring vote of confident to Kitna.

Any news is good news for the bungles, right ?

I thought the saying was: No news is good news. This action being taken by Cinncinnati is contradictory to the old adage, and in the end will prove harmful to the franchise (as all actions there are) :-)

As a Bengals fan this is the first good thing i've seen in a long time. Mainly because the decision wasn't made by IDIOT aka the man formerly known as Mike Brown. Lewis has taken charge and developing a qb is the most important thing to do. Carson Plamer took 4 years to develop in college. In his first two seasons as the starter he threw 39 picks and 39 tds. This year he had 33 td and 10 picks. That's a huge difference. I think they'll take palmer, despite my feeling that leftwitch is the better player.

I liked Kitna.....had him as a back-up on my team for about the last half of the season.......played really well!! I like the fact that Lewis is coming in and taking charge as Chaindog said......maybe they will win a few more games this year.....at least the players will get behind someone they can respect and the owner/owners won't mess with.

So far, I love the way Lewis is taking charge of this team. He's already strenthened the scouting department more than any coach has done, he's gone out and brought coaches from around the league who are respected and who weren't affiliated w/ the Bengals already, he's "cleaned house" on our previous coaching staff, making it the biggest house cleaning in franchise history, and now he's giving Kitna the vote of confidence for the starting job next year. Kitna should be the starter next year. He had a pretty nice season after he finally got the starting job. Mike "Satan" Brown has already given Lewis considerably more control than any other coach we've had. I can't believe I'm saying this after all of these years of losing, but I'm starting to get excited about the team for next season.
