Call A Plummer!

Postby Screaming Weasel » Thu Feb 13, 2003 5:20 am

From ESPN's John Clayton: Where's Plummer going?
Jake Plummer's negotiations will be the most interesting among the quarterbacks. The Cardinals made a provisional contract offer last week, but that seemed to be more of an offer if Plummer can't find the deal he's seeking. The provision would be he would have to compete against Josh McCown as the starter. The Broncos might be the team most interested in going for Plummer. Mike Shanahan is tired of inconsistent performances by Brian Griese and wants a different veteran to start. The Cowboys will pursue Plummer, but they might not pay much to acquire him.

Surprised that more teams aren't making a serious run at Jake Plummer.
Arizona isn't exactly a place to excell at QB - and the "Up Side" on Plummer is still huge IMO.
Veteran experience, in a tough place to play, great arm ... and no arrests!
Dallas, Denver, Chicago, Seattle, Cleveland and others with cap room could do worse.

(And Arizona making him compete with Josh (Josh!) McCown is exactly why Arizona is, well, Arizona. Note to the Cards: it ain't your QB!)

the reason why he's having to compete for his job in Az is because he sucked so bad last year and the year before that too. I'm not saying that he was in the best situation to be in, but he has not been a very good quarterback for a long time, since being called the next "Joe Montana."

The cards want rid of him, thats why he is being offered this type of contract.

I cant understand Denvers interest in him.

Put it this way, where would you draft him ?

Here is a quote:
There's a reason Plummer is first on most free-agency boards. You rarely see young starting quarterbacks on the list. As one GM said to me this past week, "If they're thinking of letting him go, they should first call the Bengals and find out how hard it is to recruit a QB when your team is down." A personnel man I spoke with said, "I can name 10 teams that would drop their QB for Plummer."
from the article at:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/6170207

TEN teams!! So I tried to come up with a list:
Cincy, Balt, Den, Wash, Dallas, Chi, Car, TB, Sea, Jax were the 10 I came up with, but I think I might have been stretching some. I think people know he is durable, and has been in a bad situation - they probably remember from a few years ago, when he had AZ winning a few games in the 4th quarter.

I agree.
I don't think you can properly judge him at Arizona.
The jury's still out on the Snake as far as I'm concerned.
Where would I take him (fantasy-wise?).
I ain't saying he's a lock - but a very wise "risk" to take if he winds up with even a decent team.
