Signs good regarding Winslow?
By Pat McManamon, Editor
August 10, 2004
There were indications Tuesday that the impasse
between the Browns and their first-round draft
pick might be starting to break.
The team had talked with the Kellen Winslow camp
several times the past few days, and a meeting
between Winslow's representatives and the Browns
was set for Tuesday night.
Midway through the day, FoxSports.com reported
that James Brown had reported on his radio show
that Winslow would sign a contract Tuesday or
Wednesday.
The Browns would not comment, but the team hoped
that leak indicated that the Winslow camp had the
mindset to get a contract completed.
Though no deal has been finalized, the two sides
did talk over the weekend, a source said, and the
Browns have increased the guaranteed money and
base framework of the contract.
The Browns were not commenting on the
negotiations. If a deal is completed, Winslow
would join the team for its exhibition season
opener in Nashville on Saturday.
