Court sets Ravens’ Lewis drug conspiracy trial for middle of season
By HARRY R. WEBER
Associated Press Writer
ATLANTA (AP) — Jamal Lewis’ drug conspiracy trial is scheduled to begin on Nov. 1, the middle of the NFL season.
The date, set Thursday by a federal court, comes between the eighth and ninth weeks of the season, meaning that if the trial goes on as scheduled, Lewis could miss a number of games. The Ravens are at Philadelphia on Oct. 31, then play host to Cleveland in a night game the following Sunday.
Lewis and Angelo Jackson, a childhood friend, are charged with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine and using a cell phone in violation of federal law. Jackson is additionally charged with attempted cocaine possession.
Last season, Lewis became the fifth player in NFL history to rush for more than 2,000 yards. His 2,066 yards fell short of Eric Dickerson’s record of 2,105 yards in the final game.
A college star at Tennessee, Lewis was the fifth pick overall in the 2000 draft, and signed a six-year, $35.3 million contract with the Ravens that summer. The alleged conspiracy happened around the same time, but Lewis was not charged until February of this year.
Charges against Jackson resulting from an arrest in 2000 arrest were later dismissed. The government has said it wanted to protect its ongoing investigation and that’s why it waited to bring the current charges.

Does this drop him below Edge? I think so.
Does this drop him below Moss? Thats possible too.
Does this drop him below Freddy? I doubt it.

Did I read that right or are my small asian eyes playing tricks on me again? *I apologize for the asians or non-asians who are offended by this remark in advance* So I guess there is another reason why NOT to draft him...unless he is like...there with no one else to pick him up. Also, who would he be replaced by? I think I may have him on my radar getting closer and closer to November...

crap do i stay happy with westbrook as a backup or pickup musa now?

QB: Culpepper/Delhomme
RB: Portis/Lewis/Westbrook/Steven Jackson
WR: K. Robinson/C. Rogers/Porter/Stallworth/
Andre Davis/Drew Bennett
TE: Tony Gonzalez
K: Vinatieri
DEF: Dallas

i could drop davis...

Edit: I think i'm just going to sit tight. No guarantee that musa is going to step in and be just as good as jamal. I'll probably be better off with musa.

What if he gets convicted???? Ouch that would really hurt me.

I still doubt this affects his season. I bet they will postpone and get continuations until this trial doesn't actually kick off until well after the new year.

I would drop Jackson unless it's a keeper league. Westbrook you know is going to get touches in Phil. but Jackson's only value is when Faulk goes out, which may only be for a couple of games. I'd definitely see who's winning the backup battle in Bal. and grab the cuffs.

The fact is even if Lewis' legal crew cant postpone the court dates till after the season, then really the worst that can happen is that Lewis will miss about 2 games.

Im not buying into those comments that said that if Lewis doesnt train then he wont play.

Getting Lewis at the end of the first round because all the other owners are too scared to have him could prove to be a steal. 14 games out of Lewis is still great. Just be sure to get his handcuff.

Also the missed games could prove to be a blessing. Fresher legs when he returns?
