'03 Draft - My #1 Pick? SUGGS!

Postby ScreamingWeasel » Sun Feb 23, 2003 5:28 pm

Suggs expected to have immediate impact.
By Len Pasquarelli - ESPN.com

Halfway through an advanced computer class last November, the concentration of Terrell Suggs, the Arizona State defensive end, was shaken by the jingling of his cell phone.

On the other end of the line, to the amazement of Suggs, was Colts rookie defensive end Dwight Freeney, calling to laud the Sun Devils star for having broken his NCAA single-season sack mark.

"He basically said, 'Hey, you've beat my record, so now keep going. So I went out and moved the record about as high as I could".

Suggs shattered Dwight Freeney's previous NCAA mark of 17½ sacks.
Suggs terrorized Pac-10 offensive tackles and QBs to the tune of 24 sacks last season, obliterating the benchmark Freeney had established at Syracuse.

The man known to friends as "T-Sizzles" has become one of the draft's hottest commodities.

Suggs, the man who hit the postseason awards trifecta -- capturing the Lombardi Award, the Ted Hendricks Award and the Bronko Nagurski Award -- is a guy with whom all NFL head coaches and personnel directors want to meet.

Offensive needs?
Defensive needs?
It donna makka no difference.
Money talks. BS walks.
Terrell Suggs is a win/win proposition.
And a complete LOCK.
Hands down.
The team gutsy enough to pick a D player first is set for the next 10 years.
My 2 cents,
~SW

Here's Mel (how-does-he-get-his-hair-like-that) Kiper's
current Top 10:

1. Carson Palmer Sr. QB USC
Heisman winner solidified No. 1 status at Senior Bowl.
2. Charles Rogers Jr.* WR Mich. St.
Big target (6-4, 205) with Randy Moss-like skills.
3. Terrell Suggs Jr.* DE Ariz. St.
Set NCAA single-season sack record (24).
4. Byron Leftwich Sr. QB Marshall
Outstanding pure passer with nice touch.
5. Andre Johnson Jr.* WR Miami
Size, speed and skills to be go-to NFL receiver.
6. Terence Newman Sr. CB Kan. St.
Skilled corner with blazing recovery speed.
7. Jimmy Kennedy Sr. DT Penn St.
Complete package NFL teams are looking for.
8. Jordan Gross Sr. OT Utah
Has a mean streak that keeps DEs at bay.
9. Rien Long Jr.* DT Wash.St.
Outland Trophy winner a major force on D-line.
10. Rex Grossman Jr.* QB Florida
Has skills to become best Florida QB in NFL history.

Here's Screaming (my-you-have-wonderful-hair) Weasel's advice:

Never, ever take a QB #1.
You may miss a Dan Marino once every decade or so.
But the odds are you won't.
Suggs. Gimme Suggs! Now that's a football name!
"Carson Palmer" sounds like a fashion designer.
"What are you wearing?"
"Why ... it's a Carson Plamer".

He should, in my opinion.
I've felt that ON PAPER the Bungles offense is not all that bad.
Certainly much better than their record.
Kitna, Corey Dillon, Lorenzo Neal, Warrick, Westbrook and Johnson don't sound all that bad to me.
They've now got the coach.
Time for someone on defense to terrorize an opponent, or at least stop the chuckling.
My Bengal 2 cents, anyway.

good one viper! lmao

i think he better considering their offense would be better if they actually got more than 3 possessions a game (exaggerated but oh well) they need to grab a defensive player and suggs is it period

In responce to Viper I think Lewis does have the Gonads to do it and it would be a great idea to grab Suggs #1

Look what Peppers and a system did for Carolina this year

Lewis is looking to shake thing up in Cinnci and this would be a great way to start and a great help to a very weak D.

A solid pass rush could hide a lot of the problem in the secondary just like it did for Carolina.

Suggs himself could double the # of wins the Bengals had last year!!!

I think the Bungles should, but I doubt they will. they are the Bungles after all. I expect them to take a Norwegian soccer player in the first round.

I love Suggs, but I don't agree that he is a lead pipe sinch for the next 10 years. Remember Brian Bosworth? Still he is more of a guarantee then any of the ofensive guys with the exception of Rogers in my opinion. B-)
