Champ Baily at WR

Postby bigGAME101 » Thu Aug 19, 2004 12:28 am

Now I, like most, have learned to take whatever coaches say with a grain of salt, as most are just speaking to hear themselves talk...but check out this link from the broncos site that would have champ baily playing some receiver as well as corner. In any IDP league this guy could do well...of course, all is tentative speculation right now.

btw, appologies in advance if this has already been posted somewhere

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Champ Bailey in the offense this season. The Bronco's look like they're hurting big time right now trying to find some production at wideout.

WR1- Rod Smith- about 65 years old in NFL years
WR2- Ashley Lelie- catches about as well as his first name (like a girl)
WR3- Darius Watts- rookie with promise
WR4- Adrian Madise- quite possibly the worst NFL WR I have ever seen in action, he almost fell over in the first preseason game trying to do a head fake
WR5- Triandos Luke- rookie with not so much promise

Well it seems this is becoming more common. Awhile back before any talk about champ, Terence Newman told the team he was ready to play reciever, since they would not need him to return kicks. Newman played corner, wide reciever, and kick returner in college. I think on the jets years back keyshawn johnson played corner for a few plays and had a pick if i remember correctly. Either way, it seems these versatile players want to do more for their teams, and don't be too shocked if in the future, one guy per team is playing both sides of the ball.

If it does happen I see it more like a Fridge playing FB or Sapp at TE - a play every now and again to throw the defence off and take advantage of Champ's skills.

LOL Champ cannot play WR in the NFL. His hands just arent very good. The Redskins have tried him at punt returner before and he cant even catch those. There's a reason he hasnt played WR in the NFL before, and why he's trying again now that he's changed teams. Maybe he will prove me wrong, but I've been watching him for 5 years in Washington and I have a feeling this won't work out...

There are some guys with the talent to do it occaisionally... Like Deion would every once in a blue moon come in at WR if the team was way up or they'd put him in the slot in a 4 WR set and try to get Deion one-on-one with a linebacker hoping he would do something spectacular...

You know what?

Deion was the best there was, and it hardly ever worked well...

Not to mention, how much did the Broncos pay Champ? There is no way they are going to have him out there both ways and double the risk of injury to a guy that they released their superstar RB for, and then paid a king's ransom to... No way... He'll see maybe 5 plays this year... And all will come in garbage time... I'm calling it now....
