last minute draft call, did I do the right thing?

I am commisoner and running a yahoo h2h private league this year for my co-workers.

Our hours are mostly different and we don't all work the same shift.

so it seemed best to do an auto draft.

At first it looked like I was going to have trouble getting 10 teams, so I asked around and 2 more people that didn't work with me joined the league.

Both of them seemed to favor doing an auto draft, but said they really didn't care.

I took a vote and of course everyone, but those 2 voted for auto draft.

Fast forward to today.

(The night before I set the league to auto) yahoo does draft within 72 hours when you do so.

Aug 20 12:20am Draft Ready changed from 'No' to 'Yes'

Your auto draft will be completed between now and 11:59 PM PT on Tuesday, Aug 24.

3am in the morning I get a message from one of the non co-workers

subject: Sorry but im leaving

I just dont like the auto draft.I will be leaving but it should give you some time to get someone else.Thanks

Now we have 11 teams

So I kicked out the other team that wasn't a co-worker

I send him a message right before, told him I was sorry and it wasn't his fault.


So did I do the right thing?

It was kind of a shady think to do but he wont have any problem at all finding another auto-draft league on Yahoo where he doesnt know anybody. I wouldnt worry about it at all. Personally, I much prefer playing with all people that I know anyway.

I think you did the only thing you could. It sounds like you were professional about it, he should realize it's just one of those things that happen, plus if he didn't know you guys anyway shouldn't be too much heartburn. Kinda sucks for him if he knows some/all of you, but these things happen.

I wouldn't worry about it, what else were you supposed to do? Doesn't Yahoo require you to have an even number of teams? (I may be wrong) I wouldn't worry about it.

I think you did the right thing... and no, Yahoo does not allow an odd # of teams

Sometimes being the Comish you have to make the tough calls and live with the aftermath. However, for what it's worth, you made the right call. If the draft is breathing down your neck and you need an even number of teams (and you do for Yahoo) and one drops out of the league, then you really have no time to attempt to recruit another guy so you must kick the last guy to enter the league out. You made the right call.
