I really think Gates is going to have an excellent year. I saw someone project the number of targets Gates would have gotten in a full season based on his last 8 games. It was very eye-opening
He would have been the 2nd most targetted TE in the league:
Heap - 125
Gates - 118 (extrapolated to a full season based on last half)
Gonzalez - 101
Look for this trend to continue in '04 and do not be surprised if Gates finishes as a top 5 TE. Assuming he gets about the same amount of targets and converts about 1/2 of them he could end up with something like the following:
60 catches, 720 yards, 7 TE's
While I am avoiding all SD WR's, if I was forced to draft one it would be Kassim Osgood on upside alone. He was able to train with Randy Moss in the offseason and seems to have the desire to become a top talent in the league. However, he is very raw but could come on late in the season.
