TEs as WR - Where do they rank

Postby sleeper » Wed Aug 25, 2004 4:09 pm

In my league, we have no TE spot, but can play them as receivers. Obviously, only the top 4 or 5 TEs will even be drafted, but where do you think they rank as WRs?

To make the "where do they fall" meaningful, rank Gonzo, Heap, Winslow on the Cafe WR cheat sheet.

I'd probably say
Gonzo 20
Heap 35
sleeper
Defensive Assistant
Defensive Assistant

I tend to undervalue TEs in grouped TE/WR leagues. Even the best possible TE (Gonzalez) isn't going to get you a lot of yards on the season, so you are counting on those TDs to get you points. Even #3 WRs are going to beat the yardage totals of the top TEs, so their is upside is considerably less than even borderline WRs. I have Gonzalez ranked about on par with my #30 WR or so with all other TEs considerably lower.
