Carolina signs Stephen Davis to 5-year deal

Postby chaindog35 » Thu Mar 13, 2003 2:06 am

Several Carolina Panthers and league sources told SportsLine.com that the Panthers and free agent running back Stephen Davis are expected to come to a formal agreement Thursday on a five-year contract. While exact numbers of the deal were not available (especially since it has yet to be finalized) the Panthers were willing to make an offer in the $2 million to $2.5 million per year range for the former Pro Bowl runner.

I just saw on Espn news that they did sign him to a 5 year deal.

Looks like Dee Brown is worthless now.

I like it. Great pick-up for the Panthers. Now maybe the offense

can catch-up with the defense.

I like this deal, also. I think the Panthers are wanting to win, and I think Davis is just slightly overrated, but I still think this is a good deal for them.

With the new signing of Davis, I see Foster getting a lil extra rehab time comin his way...I think Davis will take over the starting RB role and hold onto it for this year...if Foster gets a chance to come in, odds are it will be on 3rd down and goal...but time is experience and Foster needs a lot of it now that he's got a bum wheel...

I also think it's a great move for the Panthers. I think Davis becomes an instant sleeper.

Sleeper?

Everyone seems to speak more highly of Davis than Bennett and Green...recurring theme from me at this point.

From what I have gathered on this board in the last week I bet I could pick up one of those two as a sleeper

Maybe it's just old loyalty showing though

Davis should do great in Carolina it is kind of a home coming for him. Davis should get all the carries he needs with the Panthers and he should return to fantasy stardom. Posting his 1300 yrds and 10-15 tds an no receptions for 0 yrds but thats ok.
