get your trade proposal accepted!!!

Postby BGbootha » Sat Aug 28, 2004 7:31 pm

I have done this twice this year and it has worked both times. The first was a complete accident but it got me thinking.

most people have yahoo set up to send them an email when you offer them a trade. This email shows the trade that you have offered.

What i did was offer a trade that i really wanted but was a little hesitant that he would accept. (nothing crazy but the beginning of trade talks.)

Then wait a few minutes and pull the trade back. Enough time for Yahoo to post the email to him with the trade that doesn't exist any more. Then send another trade request for a just a little worse (again nothing to the point of insult. you don't want to kill trade talks. or turn in to the used car salesman)

Both times i have tried this they have countered with the trade that i sent the first time. Getting what i really wanted out of the deal.

good idea / bad idea / or have i just got lucky both times.

That's not a bad idea.

Anything to help get a trade accepted, I say is worth trying.

Heh, someone did this to me once. I was actually more inclined to decline. I saw the first one was clearly in his favor, and the second one only helped him more. I don't know if it was just me, but I actually found myslef much more likely to not accept.

very interesting situation but I'm with Iron Chef on this one. I think the only way it works is if the first proposal (the trade you really want to get done) is VERY fair. Otherwise, I see one trade in a guy's favor and then another even more so in his favor and I'm thinking he's a real punk, to put in nicely.

you did state of course that you're not sending rediculous offers as to scare the guy off, but seems like this strategy is best served in the average public league where some owners can be worked over a tad....
