When Is A GM Not A GM? In Seattle!

Postby ScreamingWeasel » Fri Mar 14, 2003 2:22 pm

When is a GM not a GM?
When he's in Seattle with Mike Holmgren!

This from USAToday Sports Weekly:
"Seattle coach Mike Holmgren got his way. He won't be reporting to new general manager Bob Ferguson. Instead, the two will report only to club president Bob Whitsitt"

Widely reported as giving up his combo head coach/GM position to save his @$$ in Seattle, in reality it just ain't so.
Mirrors.
It's all done with mirrors.
God help the Seahawks.

Maybe we should lay the blame on Whitsitt, for not having the balls to tell Holmgren the way it will be!!

Sounds like Ferguson is just Holmgrens assistant brought in to lighten Holmgrens work load not his boss. If you look as several of the other teams in the NFL this is also the case. There are fewer teams in the NFL that have "real" GMs. The Owner usually does the hireing and fireing and aquires players at the direction of the Head Coach. GM are nothing more than R&D and Cap guys.

But listen to me now and believe me later. The 'Hawks really, really need a GM.
I actually like the Seahawks!
But, man. This Holmgren master-of-all-I-survey thang just ain't workin'.

I agree Weaze. I think Holmgren has had his opputunity to do his thing in Seattle. This year is his last year to save his arse. If they don't drastically improve he's gone.
