How do Jamal Lewis' legal troubles affect his value?

Postby fiz » Tue Aug 31, 2004 10:23 pm

Should he be downgraded past 8th pick? I mean the guy ran for 2000 yards last year and 14 TDs - If he will miss 1 or 2 weeks why is everyone downgrading him so much? Is there a chance he could miss the entire season?

That's kind of the idea, or at the very least that it would weigh on him mentally. The problem with this theory is that everyone forgets that rich people get special treatment and this won't be an issue until the offseason.

I don't see any reason to downgrade him more than where he should be: the 7th overall pick right after McAllister.

[that last bit is probably up for debate depending on how your scoring is]

I downgraded J Lew from 8 to 9 on my rankings. I am really hoping I never have to choose between him and Taylor, I would have a horrible time deciding. The reason being I don't want so much risk in my 1st rd pick.

J Lew is nearly guaranteed to miss time, and if he is convicted... :-o

Well lets just say I don't want my stud to be such a risky pick, and I am trying to avoid having to decide whether to draft him or not.

I agree he's a big risk as your first-round stud RB (though I'm among those who don't think he'll be affected too much).

That said, the fantasy gods were smiling down in my draft when Deuce fell to me at No. 8 and, lo and behold, Jamal was there on the turnaround (13 overall). I can assure you I was not at all squeamish about him as a second-round pick.

Im one to think or better yet hope he won't be affected much.

The problems are that he may miss 2 games in November sue to his trial.

The bigger I concern i have is that if the NFL decides to suspend him a game or two for his "involvement". The NFL wants to keep their image anyway they can, and handing out suspensions like this is nothing new for them.

He'll be fine. Kobe, Ray Lewis, Iverson, and the list goes on. These guys get through the system, and it seems like they play better.

Happened to me too. Jamal fell to 2.8 in my 10 team league so as a #2 RB he'll be just fine.

What if you had the 7th pick in an 8 man leauge.
1-6 will go preist, lt2, portis, green, deuce, alexander(something like that). So its gonna come up to me with the choice of Ja Lewis or Edge. The guy behind picking 8th already told me he is gonna take fred taylor and whatever running back i dont take(either lewis or edge). So that means Moss is gonna fall to me. So i guess im asking am i better off w/ Moss and Lewis or Moss and Edge.

*Id really like to take Lewis, but if i did that id want more security at rb and like to take a rb w/ my 2nd round pick, but i just cant see myself passing on moss.

1pt 10 yards rush rec, 6pts td.
