The Vikings released kicker Aaron Elling late Tuesday and signed Brett Conway to a two-year deal. "He's got a background of kicking in this league," head coach Mike Tice told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "That's what we like, so that's the direction we're going to go. He's obviously a talent. Green Bay thought enough of him to make him a third-round draft pick. He's bounced around a little bit, but for kickers that's not a bad thing." Elling missed two field goals and an extra point attempt during the Vikings' preseason game and continued to miss kicks during practice this week. "I had to make a move," Tice said. "I love Aaron. He just didn't do his job. That's the bottom line in this business. He understands that."

Conway has a strong leg, but is not the most accurate kicker around. That being said, Elling is a train wreck right now so anything is better. Given the Vikings' high-scoring offense, Conway could be a nicesleeper kicker.
