Vikings' Bennett Could Miss More Time

The Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings RB Michael Bennett (knee) may not return until after the team's Bye week. The Vikings have targeted Sept. 20 (vs. Philadelphia Eagles) as the game Bennett returns, but he may not be able to play until Sept. 26 (vs. Chicago Bears). Either way, the earliest he may be able to start a game is Oct. 10 against the Houston Texans, coming off the team's Bye. "That's the way I see it now," head coach Mike Tice said. Bennett has a second-degree sprain of the MCL in his right knee.

NFL Network's Adam Shefter reports that Onterrio Smith could start the first few games of the season while appealing his drug suspension.

Very interesting. The Minnesota coaches have publicly talked about Moe Williams starting, but it could be a smoke screen. Under league rules, Smith will not serve his suspension until his appeal is heard. It's unclear when that will be, although Minnesota papers thought it would be this week. Stay tuned. Oh, I'm not advocating picking him up. I'm just saying that Moe isn't necessarily an attractive option. This RBBC in MN just isn't going away (I had Bennett last year, so I'm a little bitter).
