#4 RB needed: Wheatley / Bell / O. Smith / Hollings

Postby ferris182 » Thu Sep 02, 2004 9:20 am

Hey guys:

I need to pick up a #4 RB and these guys are available. Here is how I rank them... is this about right? Should I grab the sure starter (Wheatley) or should I take a gamble on a young guy?

Wheatley (starter w/ little upside)
Bell
O. Smith (4 game suspension?)
Hollings (I have DomDom, so he is for insurance)

My RBs are: Deuce, Rudi, Dom Davis

I also suggest Wheatley but here's my strategy on back up RBs. You first have to look at when your stud RB's will be on bye or facing NE, Dallas, Balt., Car. or another elite run stopping defense. Then you look at who your options at Running Back will be playing. I would favor Travis Minor against ARI over Wheatley at N.E. cause I would only be playing Minor that one week. (Okay Minor is a lousy example, but you get my drift I hope.) Good luck. ;-D

Of all those listed, only Wheatley is a starter...

Onterrio Smith will see carries after the suspension, so he might not be a completely wasted pick...

I wouldn't want Bell unless you have Griffin, and it's a keeper...

Hollings wouldn't be a bad pickup as insurance for Davis, but I wouldn't want to count on starting him during a bye....

Wheatley is going to suprise a lot of people this season. He is going to get the majority of touches behind a good OLine with a good supporting cast at QB and WR. I think he will finish near the top 20-25 RBs this yr - a solid #3 RB option.

Onterrio Smith is the best player, but Wheatley's probably the best pick for this year.

If Minnesota tires of injury prone Bennett, Onterrio Smith easily would be a Top 10 and Pro Bowl back.

I'm not too high on him but I would go with Wheatley. He is the only feature back out of those you listed and should provide a fine bye week filler.
