It took running back Tatum Bell until the Broncos' fifth preseason game to demonstrate the talent that made him a second-round draft pick, but the rookie speedster finally got an extended opportunity to carry the ball and ran for 69 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries against Arizona on Thursday.
On Bell's longest run of the night, a 21-yarder, he demonstrated his potential by busting through the line and bouncing out to the right sideline, but also his youth in coughing up the ball and nearly leading to a turnover. At this point, Bell is essentially a necessary handcuff to starter Quentin Griffin. Q will carry the load to start, but Tatum could emerge midseason.
