Where can I randomize a draft order?

Postby allstarqb » Fri Sep 03, 2004 2:39 pm

I am currently commishing a league on yahoo, and to give the people some notice of where they are in the draft (more than a half hour) I was thinking I would set the order with the commish tool. Of course, I want to be fair and I can't pick the order myself, so I was wondering if there is a website where you could do that. Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys! ;-D

Of course your slip should be marked so you can get a good spot ;-D . The managers in your league should understand.

I actually had to do this for one of my leagues. I needed to set the draft order but no one was going to be available to witness the drawing of names from a hat.

Excel has a formula that generates a random number between 0 and 10, so what I did was enter this formula in 10 cells assigned to each team in alphabetical order and when you hit enter it will give you 10 random numbers next to each team name. Each team drafts in order from lowest to highest. (You have to use decimals or the numbers will repeat.) Once I had an order, I took a screen capture and sent it to my league.

Here is the formula - =RAND()*(10-0)+0

Obviously, you can do this as many times as you need to until the numbers come out in your favor but this seems much more official and people will believe you actually did get the first pick. }:-)

If trust is an issue, than make it a bet. For example, pick a preseason game and have everyone give you their guess for total points (or any other stat). Closest to the actual score picks #1, next #2, ect. Send out an e-mail with everyone's picks before the game and their will be no question of foul play. Just be sure that you have a tie breaker (i.e. ten points under the score beats 10 points over). This is sort of a pain in that you have to involve everyone in the process, and it isn't truly random, but it should eliminate any doubts of your honesty.

Maybe to avoid any double picks you should make it more broad, as in total points scored for all games this week.

Edit: Alright. Disregard the above. Mustangs989 has a much easier alternative.

Just post the teams here - we'll stick em in the ol' Carmazzi helmet and draw. :-)

I like this site as it actually sends an email to the teams in your league. http://www.profantasysports.com/DraftRandomizer.htm

I used a lottery program. There's tons out there for free that'll let you configure the program to your league.
