I'm sick of people saying to wait til the last round to draft their kickers, that they are not important. WELL....in the league i'm in, its almost as important as any other positions.
We go through sandbox.com, not free. Here's what you start:
1QB
1RB
1WR
1TE
3 FLEX (RB,WR,TE no QB's)
3 Def. Players (LB, DL, DB)
pretty much if you score 10+ pts a week w/any player, you'll probably win. guys like manning/holmes, they ave. about 17pts/game. ray lewis is about 11 pts/game, which was equal to tory holts production. AND A KICKER, SUCH AS WILKINS, WAS ALMOST 11 pts/game, so the kicker is crucial if you ask me, then your not pulling for guys in other positions as much.
You don't even start a Kicker in your league, so if you draft one they will score 0 pts for you, so they don't matter at all.
In leagues that do start Kickers, they aren't as valuable because the top Kicker will only be a few points (around 3pts on average per week) better than say the 12th kicker. The differnce between the third kicker and 12th kicker is less than 2 pts per week. (based on last season's stats)
Thus making a high draft pick on a kicker not really worth it.
*edit*
Breakdown: with scoring as follows
Field Goals 0-19 Yards (3) Field Goals 20-29 Yards (3) Field Goals 30-39 Yards (3) Field Goals 40-49 Yards (4) Field Goals 50+ Yards (5) Point After Attempt Made (1)
1. Wilkins (11.19) pts per week
2. MV (10.69)
3. MS (9.0625)
4. JK (8.75)
5. JE (8.31)
10. AV (7.31)
15. MA (6.94)
20. SJ (6.56)
Edinger finished 9th (7.5), so Chicago's kicker wasn't all that bad.

Stewie: [hitting on some co-eds] I must say, the most recent campus sporting event was quite spectacular.
Co-ed: Aw. Are you in a fraternity, little boy?
Stewie: Not yet, but I'm thinking of joining I Felta Thigh.

Agreed! I prefer to take a kicker at the second to last round in the draft.
Whoops, that kinda blows my whole agrument, we do start a Kicker, funny that i forgot to mention that, but like i said, the top kickers where worth as much as r.lewis on D, and someone like holt, the top kickers beat out all but 9RB's, 1WR and no TE.

But the difference between Ray Lewis and the 12th best LB is much greater than the difference between the 1st and 12th best kicker.
Same goes for the difference between the 1st WR and 12th WR (or 24th WR if you start 2 WR)
And for the 1st and 12th RB (or 24th best if you start 2)
That's why they are drafted so late, not because they don't score, but because there is a lesser difference between the top and bottom (bottom being the last ranked that still starts) than with other positions.

Absolute numbers aren't terribly important. Imagine you hold the first pick in a two-team league where you start just two positions, K and RB. In this league's admittedly strange but useful as an example scoring system, the top kicker scores 1001 points in a season, the next best K comes in at 1000. The top RB only scores 500 points, and the second-best RB 450.
You win by drafting the RB, even though kickers score twice as many points in absolute numbers. It's all about gaining the greatest advantage possible on your opponent.

Arlo, what's aww-speak?
That's for clearing up my overly worded post.

may be diggin' myself a deeper hole here, but it'll be the last time i'll speak in here, and i'm sure that later on for aww's sake i'll "be lil more open", but the difference between the 1st K and the 3rd was 3pts/week, which makes a difference. whereas the top 3RB's, well the difference was 2.5pts between #1 and #3, but anyway, not hat big of deal!
