ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Denver Broncos wide receiver Ed McCaffrey is recovering from groin surgery performed last month to correct a sports hernia, the team announced Tuesday.

McCaffrey underwent surgery for a condition called athletic pubalgia, commonly called a sports hernia, on March 18 in Philadelphia.
"He will be resting for three to four weeks, and then the rehabilitative phase will begin,'' said Broncos trainer Steve Antonopulos.
McCaffrey, 34, is expected to return to full workouts after a two- to three-month recovery process.
He was slated to make $3.5 million in 2003, but he agreed to restructure his contract to make room on the team's salary cap.
McCaffrey has been one of the most productive and popular players in Broncos history.
He suffered a gruesome broken leg in the first game of the 2001 season, but bounced back last year to finish second on the team with 69 catches for 903 yards. He also set a team record by catching a pass in 68 straight games.
He is third in team history with 46 receiving touchdowns, fourth in receptions with 443 and fifth with 6,005 yards.
