Week 1 LOCK

Postby Mookie4ever » Mon Sep 06, 2004 7:41 am

Post your locks for Week 1 here:

My Week 1 lock is Detroit Lions +2 1/2 at Chicago

This game looks like a toss up to me. It will be very close. The 2 1/2 points decided this one for me.

Explain yourself please. Is it because you think Detroit will win? I'm not sure I'm ready to hitch my wagon to a team led by Joey Harrington, especially with a rookie RB and WR :-o

I think that Chicago is an awful team. Their defence is overrated and they have no playmakers on offence.

Rex Grossman doesn't do it for me. Lovie has shown what he can do with defences but this team need offensive help. Terry Shea has never managed an offence before. These guys are trying to install a new offensive system that some people do not think will work at Soldier Field. I will give them the benefit of the doubt but I think that it will take a few games to work out the kinks if it is going to work at all.

The Lions on the other hand have a number of playmakers on offence and an underrated d.

At home the Lions would be favourites. In Chicago, the game looks very even but the line is 2 1/2 in favour of the Bears because it is opening day in Chicago and there is a mystique there. There is a possibility that once the Bears offence goes 4 and out 3 times in a row that the crowd could turn on the Bears and this could turn into a rout.

The only way that the Bears win this one is with their defence. If they keep it close and make a few big plays on D, the youngsters on the Lions offense could cough it up and make mistakes. But when you count on the D to win a game you know that it will be close and that is where getting the 2 1/2 point comes in.

3 point would be much nicer but I don't think that this line will move at all.

I would go against this pick, I think Chicago will win this game. I think it will be by more than 3 points as well. A young team like Detroit will need a few weeks to gel.

If you can get it Baltimore -3 over Cleveland would be my lock.

Baltimore -3 over Cleveland is an easy lock for me.

I got a couple i like in week one.
http://www.sportsbook.com

Detroit +3 @ Chicago my lock of the week
For the same reasons that Mookie talked about earlier

Chiefs +3 @ Denver
I know they are in Dener and they didn't handle them too well last season. But i just don't see KC losing this game. let alone losing by more than 3.

Washington -1.5 vs. Tampa Bay in Washington
Tampa Bay's Defense is no where near what is was in its glory days. Washington has some huge weapons on offense and one of the most underrated defenses in the league. I can easily see Washington running away with this one.

bg,

I can't find the lines on sportsbook.com - If they have Detroit at +3 I would go for it for sure, my site is still at +2 1/2.

I don't really have a feel for the other two games yet.

I don't think the 'quicklinks' work. If you use the links found in the top left of the 'betting home' page link named NFL lines.

it should take you there.

09/12/04 407 Lions(Detroit) +120 +3 (-125) Over 39.5

13:05 ET 408 Bears(Chicago) -140 -3 (+105) Under 39.5

Yeah,

I can't see the lines unless I sign up.
