Tried to check the site a couple of times today and couldn't. :-o

Started to panic...(gasp)...didn't know what to do... 8-o

Our host was forced by the datacenter to move their stuff to a new server. The whole thing should have been done on Monday, but it dragged on for the entire week and was finally executed today. The result was that they published a snapshot of the Cafe from Monday (!), which essentially would have meant that 3-4 days of posts would have been lost.

Now we keep our own backups, but for some reason it was impossible to install them on the new server. So I spent the rest of the day extracting what was left on the old server before it got formatted. This involved funny stuff like queezing a 200MB file through the line (the server simply didn't let me compress it because the whole process took too long) and sitting there for hours watching a make-shift, semi-automatic transfer script do one browser refresh after the other and giving it a kick in the behind once in a while because the new server doesn't seem to be exactly stable either.

Anyway, looks like most of the posts survived. Gonna get a beer now while I watch how the baseball script behaves. (YES, I did football first. :-D

I got in early today and noticed that a 3rd of most posts were gone...panic set in as I check my post count...no way im going to 1k all over again LOL
