Saints sign Conwell

Postby Roseman » Mon Apr 14, 2003 2:24 pm

Not huge news but there is an impact

On the same day the Saints worked out a trade for Patriots safety Tebucky Jones, they have also found a new starting tight end.

SportsLine.com has learned that New Orleans has agreed to a five-year deal with free agent Ernie Conwell. Financial terms are unknown at this time, but Conwell is expected to sign the deal Tuesday.

Conwell is the top-rated tight end on the open market and represents a significant upgrade at the position for the Saints.

Last season with the Rams, Conwell had 34 receptions for 419 yards and two touchdowns.

he is a decent TE and should do well in NO. they just bought a great addition for Brooks by giving him a dumpoff guy to spread the defenses

as long as they use conwell as a TE and not a FB like the rams started doing he will do well in this offensive....this is one of the most potent offences in the league....this only makes it better

I like the pick up Conwell is just another weapon for Brooks to throw too as well Conwell is a better blocker than any of the TE on the roster for the Saint currently. This means more time for Brooks to throw and another guy for McAllister to run behind that can open up some nice holes like he did for Faulk.
