Thoughts on C Garner

What do you guy's think about Garner this year. I know he probably won't get in the endzone a whole lot but I know Gruden really likes him, so do you think he will get used alot, and how productive do you think he will be?

I have him on my team. As a bye week fill in, more than anything. I think he will do decent, but Alstott is sure to get the goal line carries. And when Pittman comes back in week 5, I think his value will diminish even more.

I think this is a good question that hasn't been touched on in a while here at the cafe -- what SHOULD we really expect from Garner?

He'll either do really well or really poorly. Instinctively, I have a feeling that he'll either be all or nothing. Gruden loves him, and he knows just as well as all of us that Pittman will be back at some point. I think Garner plays hard and has a fairly nice season for a backup fantasy RB.

i would not at all want to start Garner.

There is no way he runs for 1000 yds and he wont get more than 5 TDs. He could be decent in a league that rewards for receptions though

Yes, I have him and my league does reward receptions. Pittman had like 70 catches last year. I grabbed Pittman for insurance till the dust clears. I like Garner in my leagues format....but if all you get is points for yardage....he won't be anything more then a #4 or # 5 IMO

No one knows how to better utilize Garner than Gruden. I've ranked him along Duce Staley and T. Jones, kind of the combo back tier if you will. I think he could produce nicely in that offense. Gruden hasn't seemed overly enamored with Pittman or Alstott for that matter and with the receiving corps helter skelter, he could put up some nice combo yards. I'm thinking 800yds. rushing, 500yds. receiving, about 6 TDs ballpark. Not a bad spot start.

I actually think if he stays healty he could actually put up #2 back numbers. The bucs have one of the easier to run against schedules. He ofcourse knows how to play in Gruden's system better than probably any other back. I live in tampa and what little he played in preseason he still looked exceptionally quick. Between his receiving and rushing yards I feel he will be a surprise this year. With that being said I still have not been taking him as more than my #3 back and possible future trade bait.

Actually I think the Gruden thing is overrated with Garner because Garners best year came under Calahan. I wouldn't expect much, they'll probably use all 3 backs plenty, which is bad for fantasy.

Good call. IMO, Garner is a spot starter unless your league gives points for receptions, in which case he is a decent #3.
