Ward & Burress Numbers...2002? or 2003?

Postby BeefSandwiches » Thu Sep 09, 2004 6:39 pm

2003
Ward - 95/1163/10
Burress - 60/860/4

2002
Ward - 112/1329/12
Burress - 78/1325/7

Passes thrown to these two
2003 - 155
2002 - 190

Supposedly they are focusing more on the run in 2004, so will there be a further dropoff in these numbers or will the Steelers have a couple studs on their hands again?

I think there is expected to be some dropoff in their #'s - but they should both still be good. With talented WR's like that the steelers will have to pass sometime. Personally I'd prefer to have Plex as my #3/4 WR than to have ward as my #1/2 WR - it's Plex's contract year and he'll try harder.

Well said Iggle!!!!

Plex will be a nice #3/4 with upside. Ward is a #1 but not as high as last year whenthey had NO running game to speak of. They are committed to the run and will run it more then anyone.(except WSH maybe)lol

I think they'll go back to 2002 form if Plax plays like expected and like he can.

You would assume going back to the run would decrease these numbers, but in fact it increases them. When the steelers can run well there passing game opens up and hines and plax will kill you. So if the steelers can run look for 202 numbers form them.

Not necessarily - some guys are just too talented for a lot of defenders. The run game does open up the air, but it takes away from the touches since there are only so many to go around. An example of this last year was Anquan Boldin, who was pretty much the only offensive threat for the Cards, but he dominated with getting all the touches and killing defenders.

It's a give some, take some situation.
Respect Stevie McNair. Bow down to the pouch.
