Logo Designers - HELP Needed with Lowering file sizes!

I am needing some suggestions

I make these logos, but when I make the NEW file at 340x90
I am ending up at 14000+ byte or more...

How do you compress it to make the file fit within limits?

When I finish, I save it optimized at 1 and low optimization and its still to big.

Am I leaving any steps out? I save as .JPG

Suggestions? I have Photoshop 5.0 by the way...

How many layers are you using?

I usually have 5-7 layers

I went under file but that option wasnt there for photoshop 5.0

any other areas I need to look?

Man, so close but yet so far?

I know that with 7.0 under save for web you can mess with the quality to make it cafe size. I'm not sure what to do on 5.0.

Yea -b I got it to work finally
but seems that I do lose quality with Photoshop 5.0
