Player Salaries/Contracts...as promised

Postby Wolfpig » Mon May 05, 2003 5:17 pm

A week or so ago I was seeking advice on where I could find out about player contracts and salaries. Speicifically I was looking for players in contract years, since I subscribe to the theory that when guys play for money, they play hard.

After years of searching and searching, I have finally found the resource that is so incredible, I am cringing with the idea of sharing it with a forum. But since I am a man of my word and promised I would share it if I found it, here it is:

http://www.nflpa.org

This is the website for the National Football League's Player Association. On that website, you may click on "Active Players" and then "Active Player Search." Type in a player's name, and it gives you their salary and length of contract. The disadvantage is that it does not give a comprehensive listing of all players in a contract year - you must search player by player. The advantage is that with their sorting options, you can come up with some rather amazing salary statistics. To save everyone some time, I came up with a list of a few notable (or sort of notable) players who are in contract years this season. Looks like the Colts are going to get Manning a new deal soon, but as of right now, he is the biggest name out there. WR Torry Holt sure is interesting as well...check it out:

QB Daunte Culpepper
QB Peyton Manning

RB Kevan Barlow
RB Brandon Bennett
RB James Jackson
RB Berudi Johnson
RB James Mungro
RB Dominic Rhodes
RB Kenny Watson
RB Ricky Williams (Colts)

WR JaJuan Dawson
WR Ron Dixon
WR Ron Dugans
WR Donald Hayes
WR Torry Holt
WR Derrick Mason (RFA)
WR Justin McCareins
WR Marvin Minnis
WR Dennis Northcutt
WR Steve Smith
WR Dez White

TE Chris Mangum
TE David Martin

Like I said I am a man of my word. I hope y'all enjoy this list, take it for what it is worth, and please, unless you feel it totally necessary, keep that website on the "down low."

I'm 99% sure both Terell Owens and Tai Streets are UFA's next year.

I recall that post of yours Wolfpig, it is a very valid point.

Ive always believed players try harder more frequently when looking to renew a contract.

You notice come playoff time players/teams step up a gear, that gear is always available, its just not used in regular season games, EXCEPT by those few players who stand out year after year.

Human nature? Who knows.

Good article ! ;-D

9er fan:

According to the website I listed, which is 100% accurate, here is the contract for WR Terrell Owens, who is signed through 2006.

1999 400000.00
2000 413000.00
2001 477000.00
2002 3600000.00
2003 4200000.00
2004 5300000.00
2005 5900000.00
2006 6500000.00

Streets is not listed on the website, which means that he is not an active member of the NFL Player's Association. There are presently 11 guys who play in the NFL who are not in it, and apparently he is one of those guys. Strange. I have no contract information on him. But Owens will not be an UFA in 2004.

Hmm...brings up an interesting question for the Niners...

they were thinking about releasing Hearst to clear up 2 mil on their cap...

looks like the cheaper route would be play Hearst into the ground this year so that Barlow doesn't get big numbers and demand 5 mil plus a year for the next few years
