Trading and Drafting

Okay...this may be more of a Commish question, but since we don't have a spot for it....here it goes...lol

How are some of the Trades during Draft Time handled by your league? As an example, say you want to trade your 5th and 6th rnd pick for an extra 3rd rnd pick. You would then have one less spot filled on your roster while the other team would have 2 extra spots. Would the other team have to drop a player or two? Would you get to fill in the extra spot on your roster from the Free Agent Pool/Waivers when the season started?

Im just curious to see how this kind of issue has been addressed in various leagues (Keeper, Redraft, etc). I can see the no harm no foul trade of trading picks for picks straight up, i.e. Me giving up my 2nd and 3rd rnd pick for someone else's 2nd and 3rd rnd pick. But what about some of the more complicated trades? Maybe even including players and a draft pick? any thoughts???

In C-Hawks and my league we have strict roster limitations.

and you have to meet these parameters at all times.(except for offseason)
Since draft pick tradeing is popular in our league we decided to keep it simple. So if you trade away a draft pick and you still have to fill your roster we basically add suplemental picks at the end of the draft. We keep with the draft order and even though say 8 guys in the league have filled there roster and 2 others still need a couple of guys they have to continue drafting to fill there roster. If you aquire extra picks in trades you are done your draft earlier than others.

For example one guy in our league has 4 extra draft picks right now so if we protect 5+a kicker there should be only 11 rounds to fill your roster this guy will be done drafting in the 7th round. Where as others will be drafting well in to the 14th round

I'm the commish for my league and I see this a lot.

We have strict roster reqs. During any point of the season (off season included) If two teams are negotiating a trade that involves a 2 picks for 1 type thing, I usually just tell them to throw in the teams last round selection to even out draft picks.

Otherwise I'd prolly make the team who is giving up 2 players be comped with a supplemental pic at the end of the draft (after all other owners have made all their selections).

exactly roseman.If you have more drafts picks you just stop drafting once your roster is full.as for trdaing players for picks or player for player trades my league is redraft yearly so trades rarely go down.

In the league I commission, it is very simple.

When there is an odd number of picks traded, the player receiving more picks loses his last picks, while the player receiving less picks, will pick up the last pick in the draft.

For example - 3 round draft with three teams -

Before trade:
1.01 - team a
1.02 - team b
1.03 - team c
2.01 - team c
2.02 - team b
2.03 - team a
3.01 - team a
3.02 - team b
3.03 - team c

Following trade happens:
Team a sends pick 1.01 to Team c for pick 1.03 and 2.01.

After the trade the draft order will look like this:
1.01 - team c (from team a)
1.02 - team b
1.03 - team a (from team c)
2.01 - team a (from team c)
2.02 - team b
2.03 - team a
3.01 - no pick
3.02 - team b
3.03 - team c
x.01 - team c (to make roster full)
