Opinions of online fee and pay league sites

Postby awwchrist » Mon May 19, 2003 2:27 pm

It's coming ever closer to that time of the year again...

should i renew my league into that crap hole of a league site?!

Right now my cbs.sportsline league is flashing at me to RENEW NOW!!! But as an ever vigilent commish (you all are or have one right?) I want to make sure I'm getting the most value for my $$$. It's hard to justify asking the village idiots...errrr..i mean owners in my league, for extra $$ to fund the league fees if they don't like it, or find something better.

SO...my question to you is, what are your experiences with other league sites, pay/free/otherwise?

I've had my league in cbs.sportsline for 1 year, and it did work well. My only major complaint was some icky java errors for certain owners and a very slooooow site during and after the sunday games. What good is LIVE SCORING when you can't even get to the page? All that for 120.00 a season.

An alternative I see is ESPN, where it's 99.00 this season. But I dont have any first hand experience of their product, and their virtual walkthrough leaves something to be desired.

Any suggestions and or commments?

Thanks )

websites

I have been a cbssportsline fantasy football user for the last three seasons (paying for only last year).

Considering the navigational ease, thorough statistics, and reliability, I have not seen a better site out there at any price.

$10 a guy isn't much, but I know what you mean that for $120 from a league, the website better step up big time.

Last year, there was a week one debacle with cbssportsline, and the paying customers understandably were up in arms. However, the reassuring email sent to each client, followed by successful efforts to avoid the problems in the future, earned back my faith in the product.

I am interested to see how others respond to your question, but for now, I plan on subscribing to cbssportsline again this year.

By the way ... 'HAWKS FAN? Me too. Hope the team doesn't take all my money away just 'cause I drive like Dwayne Goodrich.

I am playing Fantasy Baseball right NOW over at CBSSportsLine and it's been a disaster.
Way, way, WAY worse than when it was for FREE!
A bazillion leagues hammered them with complaints at the start of the season - and all you ever got was a generic "we're sorry, we're working on it" mass "e" mail.
A total rip. Even at $9.95/basic.

What KILLS me is that they had over 5 months (October to March) to get all the "bugs" out before they started charging.
And they didn't.

I've use CBS for football for years now.
Not THIS Fall.

As far as online leagues I play Yahoo.I am a tightwad so I dont like to pay.I play the free baseball and football.I have also played sandbox.Other than using defensive players, sandbox isnt as good as Yahoo. My pay league I am in uses FLM.Fantasy League Manager. It is a program that you can set up everything to your liking. Our commish does a good job updating the scores on sundays, and set up a website with the standings, stats and all those neat things like that.LOL!The program was like 80$ the first year and I believe it was 20$ off for using it again. The draft was the best part.It has a running clock, tells who is on the clock and the team who is next.It also announces everyones pick when its made.If you didnt know any better you would think it was Tagliabue.LOL!

I used CBS a couple times, someone always had trouble connecting on Sunday. We moved to Yahoo, its free and has been just as good if not better for us. You do have to pay for stat tracker (cheap tho 7 bucks I think) and there are other pay services there.

Yahoo is a very adequate site. The best thing is that you can host the league for free and it's up to the owners how much they want to spend for add-ons.

Fanball.com is looking pretty good, and it is only around $50. You can't customize the site to the level of myfantasyleague.com, but everything seems to run pretty smoothly and I've only heard good things about them.

Sorry to hear to guys have so many problems with CBS i am in two leagues that are on CBS and excluding week 1 I never had a problem connecting or watching the Live Scoring for 11 hrs every Sunday. I love CBS i think it is great the only knock I would give them is that you cant use D players only team D/ST.

The 120 US is not that bad if you are breaking it down among ever owner. $10 per head for a 12 team league and $12 buck a team for 10 team league is very reasonable of course once you convert that to Canadian $s wow watchout! lol
