A steady diet of receptions last season didn't satisfy Marvin Harrison's appetite.
The Colts' prolific wide receiver said his NFL-record 143-catch performance could have been more robust.
"It's still a little shocking to me," Harrison said of his total, "but I was a little disappointed. I dropped a few that were strictly my fault. It had to be 10 (drops), maybe seven."
So, from Harrison's perspective, 150 receptions were within reach. Quarterback Peyton Manning laughed at the possibility but didn't argue the point.
"I think he thinks if I hit him on 10 others, he could have had 153," Manning said. "He's always wanting to get better."
That point was driven home to coach Tony Dungy when he approached Harrison during a game last season. With the team's defense on the field, Harrison was sitting alone on the bench, doing a slow burn.
Here's Dungy's recollection of the conversation:
Dungy: "How's it going?"
Harrison: "How's it going? Are you watching the game? They can't cover me and (the Colts) aren't coming to me."
Dungy: "Marvin, every pass we have is designed for you."
Dungy wasn't bothered by Harrison's thirst for more.
"He thinks he's open on every play and the best way for us to win is to get him the ball all the time," Dungy said. "That's what makes him so good."
