This has been the rumored marriage for the past two months once the Denver Broncos release him next Tuesday for salary-cap reasons. But Miami coach Dave Wannstedt hasn't been happy that agent Drew Rosenhaus, among others, has been predicting that Griese won't be returning to his Miami roots unless he receives a promise of replacing starter Jay Fiedler.
Wannstedt definitely doesn't want his locker room believing the Griese-to-be-starter rumors before it actually happens. Fiedler has been a loyal soldier, and Wannstedt has stuck with him even though others believe he doesn't have the talent to lead the Dolphins to the Super Bowl. It is a tough situation, considering Wannstedt has a solid group of veterans, especially on defense, who believe him. They could become wary if Griese arrives as expected and quickly jumps to first in the throwing rotation.
But Wannstedt has to do what's right, and Griese is a solid addition. Plus, he also has to worry about his own job security. He may have to make the playoffs this season to remain employed by Wayne Huizenga.
