Why did Javon Walker have the big game?

Walker is on my team and I usually start him. Weeks one and two he didn't do much, but last night he blew it up!

Week 1 vs Panthers: 2 recp for 37 yards
Week 2 vs Bears: 7 recp for 102 yards
Week 3 vs Colts: 11 recp for 200 yards and 3 TDs!

The question is, how did Favre decide to start throwing to Walker over Fergusen and Driver? Is it just weak matchups for Walker, luck, is Walker becoming the #1 receiver? I'd like to know so I can plan who to play each week.

Well, it was a shootout, and Walker is Favre's deep threat... The downside to being that is that when they are going ball control, which is more often than not, it's going to be more Ahman Green and dink-and-dunk passes spread to all three guys, but when Favre finds himself way down or in an absolute shootout (which Carolina most definitely was NOT, Chicago was in a sense, and Indy redefined), you will see Favre having to air it out more, and most of those balls go to Walker...

So, if I was going to try to predict when to play Javon Walker, it would be in games when the Pack are likely to struggle or fall behind...

I wouldn't call 7 catches for 102 yd's "didn't do much" in wk. 2.

You're right, that's quite good, but the other two weeks definitely aren't 'do much' for a top receiver.
I should have changed that.

I read that Calico is out, which I didn't know. Maybe when he comes back that will help take pressure off of Mason.

I didn't see the game, so perhaps someone who did can shed some light on what happened. From the recaps I read, though, it sounds like Walker spent the day taking advantage of a rookie, Jason David. Harper and Strickland must have been on Driver and Ferguson. If that was the case, maybe the key is to play Walker is when an opposing defense has to play a rookie on him in nickle and dimes. Unfortunately, that is a little deeper than my normal weekly gameplanning. Good luck.

You know, this knowledge might be as important regarding WR's facing Indy. It could explain why Patten, then Kinney also had decent days against the Colts. It may not hurt to play a decent third receiving option when playing Indianapolis.....Time for Reggie Williams to breakout?
