I heard an interview with Reid a while back. He said they have more pass plays in the red zone for LJ Smith than anyone else.
Someone else already laid out the scenario, but just handing the ball to Westbrook on the goaline (where he's likely to take some BIG hits) just isn't the best idea. One option compared to having five or six on a pass play, including McNabb taking off, I think it's easy to see why Reid has been calling these plays.
