The AP wrote:CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Carolina running back Stephen Davis will not play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons because of a knee injury.
DeShaun Foster, who ran for 174 yards and a touchdown filling in for Davis two weeks ago, will start instead.
Davis had arthroscopic surgery on his knee Sept. 17 and missed Carolina's win over Kansas City. He was supposed to miss anywhere from two to five weeks, but said he hoped to be back for the Falcons game. The Panthers were off last weekend.
``It's disappointing, but I want to be smart about when I go back in,'' Davis said. ``DeShaun's doing a great job, going in there and making plays. We've got guys that can go in there and get it done.
``I just have to get myself better and get myself ready.''
Davis said he had not ruled out returning next week to play against the Denver Broncos.
He plans to watch the game against Atlanta from the sidelines Sunday and help Foster as much as he can.
``I can see some things that he probably can't see during the game, that's basically what I'm doing,'' Davis said.
