I think it's time for the NFL to find its balls on this one.

Hmm, they stall on suspending/fining drug abusers, but if a guy wants to wear a number 40 sticker on his helmet for the year, they all over that guy like flies on you know what. If he doesn't get suspended and goes to jail over the offseason, Jamal Lewis owners got a bargain in the draft. On a side note, can one of the mods merge all the J-Lew plea bargain posts into one topic so we have all the info under one post?

The NFL isn't stalling yet. They can't do anything until the court finds him guilty. And from what I understand (my knowledge of law is not very good) if the D.A. allows him to plead 'No Contest' than the NFL will not be able to take action against him.

if this is true then this is great! I do not know how the nfl figures players for suspension. I say give him a big fine and let him be!

If he plea bargains, thats admitting guilt, so I don't think you can plea bargain and plead no contest at the same time.

I must admit I am surprised. Seemingly every pro athlete gets off on whatever charges are brought against them. Why not hire some big shot hy-pha-lootin lawyer to find some technicality or whatever and gets the charges dropped?

I'm pretty sure that No Contest is often the primary component of a plea bargain. I wish I could find a link to the article I'm referring to but I can't remember it. Here is a quote from an online law dictionary:

A plea bargain is an agreement in a criminal case where a prosecutor and a defendant arrange to end the case against the defendant. The defendant agrees to plead guilty or no contest (and often allocute) to a more minor offense than charged or to a smaller number of offenses than charged.

what a jacka$s, i hope the NFL slaps a huge fine/suspension on this knucklehead....at least he concedes his guilt, but this HAS to be on his mind the rest of the season (how would you feel knowing you are going to spend a couple of months in jail?)

Just like Kobe had the rape case on his mind? Anyways, he'll probably end up in a country club minimum security prison.

The ABC News article mentions a Halfway House. I doubt he'll see actual prison time. It will be more like house arrest.
